Ginger Ale

There was a time when Ireland was known for its pioneering ways; the Coffey still, triple distilled pot still whiskey and interestingly, the lesser known invention of ginger ale.

Created by an American doctor, Thomas Cantrell, in Ireland in the late 1800’s, his pale dry ginger ale became an instant success. The idea was soon pilfered by the Canadians who labelled it dry and then later by the Swiss who sold out to the English but Schhh, the less said about that the better.

This dry style of ginger ale became extremely popular in the US in the 1920’s as it masked the taste of bootlegged whisky which led to a natural partnership that has existed ever since. While the Canadians and the English went from strength to strength, the Irish varieties dwindled through time, that is until now…

Poacher’s have brought back the pale dry style of ginger ale using natural ingredients to create a mixer that once again pairs beautifully with our nation’s great whiskeys. Celebrating natural ginger and balancing it with a delicious apple syrup from Highbank orchard in Kilkenny to round off the taste, this naturally low in sugar ginger ale is a salute to Mr Cantrell and his rather revolutionary invention.

Ginger Ale is finally back where it belongs!
